Light Box Practice + Weight Lifting Update

Still practicing with the home made light box. Changed the set up a bit to let more light in and that helped quite a bit.

This a LSS for my Pathfinders, from the Desert Talon Tribe that I recently decided on the Tribal symbols for.

I plan to finish up the 10 man squad this month and get the symbols added.

This pic is closer to what I am after..as this is very close to my naked eye and a much better pic than what I have gotten in the past...so working on it!

Weight Lifting:

2.28.16 was Upper Body, Over load day

Kept it simple but heavy:
Started with Flat Bench 235 x 10, 275 x 10, 295 x 8, 315 x5 ( in lbs)
Followed with some partials with 405, 425, and 455lbs
Finished with some Pause reps with 315

In between sets I completed 7 sets of 10 on various grip pull ups and 5 sets of Yates Rows with 225lb for 10 reps each.

Good and spent by the end and got to play with some big boy weights. Felt good.

Independent Characters Hobby Progress Challenge: February Complete

I have been working diligently on these guys and managed to get them done well ahead of the end of the month. I now have the scheme down pat and rest should go much quicker.

I am still on the fence on a chapter badge, but have some ideas.

I plan to do better pictures either once a month or at end of challenge.

2100 Orks Project: Gretchen and Herder finished.

I managed to get my 2100 Orks Gretchen Squad done. The pictures came out a little washed out for some reason. The color is much deeper in person. May try to snap some more next time taking some pics of the orks. I also added these to the BDS 40K Album.

Back to a Bit of Painting

This month seems to have come and gone without me even looking at a paint brush and I am now hard pressed to meet my August challenge.

Here is a before pic. I have a little over 24 hours to reach a table top standard. The model is a limited release figure from Joe Orteza given to Adepticon attendees in either 2003, 2004, or 2005. I can't quite remember and the indent on the tab that told me so is firmly set in the base now.

He will most likely perform as a jack of all trades, as is correct for a bounty hunter. He will stand in as an Eversor Assassin (until I find the sculpt with the assassin holding the severed head), a death cult assassin (hey, ladies can't have all the fun), possibly a jokero, and even a special weapon toting warrior.

Let's see what be can done in a little over a day, work and real life allowing.

Overcomming Painting Inertia

Something has plagued me since I started this engrossing hobby ten years ago...painting.

There was, and sometimes still is, an unseen palpable force preventing me from getting started on a painting project. I will stare at a model for days and then lose interest.

I have ashamedly played an unpainted army for the entire life of a codex. I couldn't really put my finger on it. It was like a combination of indecision, aversion to the amount of time it will take to do a project the way I want, sense of defeat that my painting skill cannot match my imagination, and a feeling of being overwhelmed with the amount of models I own that are unpainted.

Unfortunately, until I drew a line in the sand and developed a true desire to paint the problem just continued to grow....

Grey Knight Culexus Assassin Finished with Commentary on Rule Set

My slow painting progress continues. In the month of July I managed to finish this fella.

I also got 80% done with a slaanesh chaos marines squad as well; pics to follow soon. WIP shots can be seen in my slide show found in the side bar.

I have also had some introspection on my painting and plan to elaborate in a future article on the subject in general.

Now that I have 3/4 assassins ready for play, I am eager to field them despite my vow to play with painted figs...which I can't always uphold.

However, this poor fellas rule set is either very poor when compared to his brothers and sister or I need to work on my imagination. Let's break it down.

Grey Knight Inquisitor Rebased and Touched Up..Henchman Unit Too!

Finally finished re-basing and touching up these beautiful models originally painted by a local gamer named Fallen Hero.

Pics can be found below and also in the slide show located in the side bar.

I have to admit I have not been kind to these models over the years and am glad I did not do something awful to them, as they really fit into the current Grey Knight codex.

While their weapon load outs are not my first choice, I have some more unpainted I will attempt to convert and match color scheme.

Vindicare Assassin Added to my Grey Knight Henchman List

Spent some time painting up my Vindicare Assassin.

I wanted to get this guy done at the beginning of putting my list together as I foresee him getting quite a bit of table time.
While we're at it lets take a look at his rules, basic tactics, and how he will fit in my eventual list.

Grey Knights Henchman List Begins

Been too long without some 40k content on my mainly 40k blog...;)

My first fervent foray into the DH codex understandably will begin with some fanatics.

This group of a DH Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor (shown left) and his jolly band of henchmen (shown below) will get a bit of a touch up; with most of the work done to snazzing up the base.

Painting props properly applied to a chap in my area, Fallen Hero, as I obtained these finely done figs several years ago in a trade.

Campaign Force Research and Planning

My research started by pulling out the first Warhammer 40k item I every saw. This originally belonged to my brother. It was purchased in 1990 for $22.95...ah the good ole days unh?

Anyway I was looking for some campaign badge ideas. I did not see any really. But, I did the get inspiration for the power point glyph in the first post.

I also noticed in the very first section, pg 4, homage to the Mentor Legion, Chapter 888. Depicting Imperial Commander Nsk Ran-Thawll of the Mentors trying on some experimental armour. It also indicated the Mentors were utilized quite a bit in this capacity.

With this in mind I just might have to make sure I include a unit to represent the Mentors.

Here is a pic of my culled models for the campaign force:

You can see here a mostly painted Black Templar Predator. It won many battle Honors in historic confrontations such as the 2004 Adepticon Team Tournament. Also some red based Sons of Orar, a squad of Iron Snakes, and just barely make out my Chaplain.

If you look closely you can see my converted stern guard there in middle.

Better pics of each yet to come.

Here are some better pics of the pred and also indicate the starting place for my refurbishment into the campaign forces (name yet to be developed):

The pics are a little washed out. But, you get the idea. I also dug through some of my bike models for a suitable bike captain. I noticed in building much of bike forces I used quite a bit of Dark Angel shoulder pads and Raven Wing bits.

I may have to take that into account as I flesh this amalgamation all together.

Lastly here is the starting point for a basic bike captain. He will be the main character of the campaign and will thus see several incarnations I would imagine. No body starts with all the really cool war gear on their first foray! He needs a bit of work but this will provide the initial structure from which to work:

Cleansing the Motor Pool Update

Here is the latest model and first tank in a very long time I have painted.

The bummer of not having all the Chimera parts really made me just want to dive into something else.

I have had this model for years. I picked it up pre built in a trade a while back and finally got it ready to carry around the squad of Bezerkers I can never seem to leave home without.

I used some techniques I have found on the web here and there to represent the battle damage and other details. Many of these I attempted for the first time.

I am pretty happy with the result and will be picking out the next vehicle I want to takle this evening.

May Project.....Clear the Motor Pool!!

Here is my May project.

I tend to shy away from vehicles. But the time has come to knock out a few.

I will also be working on my GK's this month starting with the HQ's. The three bagged vehicles are Chimeras, they will get early attention as well as they will see frequent use with my GK's.

Finally Time for Some Grey Knight Action!!

Let's start with a WIP of my counts as Inquisitior Coteaz.....Machavillian Trukk:

I choose to go with a relic/alien design bolter versus the psyber eagle....I just can't get around that part of the model.

Next up is the skull headed thunder hammer. Pretty basic conversion. The hanging accouterments represent his other various war gear.

I may trim the base a bit there on the left. It is pretty big. I also want to add a possible shoulder pad on his right arm.

Now that I have a box of GKSS I may trade out the relic bolter for a psyliencer...a weapon I will probably never use in a list.

Next Up: Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor

FLayed Ones Completed for 4.23 Tourney

Here is a pic of my completed Flayed Ones. They helped me earn a few more comp points and a couple objectives all day. I really could have run a 4 man squad and used points elsewhere. Kept the scheme simple; some basic colors and washes.

Thanks,
BDS

Necron List for April 23 1700pt Tournamet

Here is a pic of my Deceiver and proposed list for the April 23, 2011 1700 point tournament.
The flayed ones unit I usually leave at home and need to complete painting for by Friday night, but the help out with comp score by nabbing two units from each FO.
Dcvr
2x10 Warriors
Monolith
1 Tomb Spyder
5 Flayed ones
3 Wraiths
10 Scarabs
8 Immortals
1 Lord with Destroyer Body, Warscythe
1657 points.

Few points left over to move some things around if I want...not greatly, but some. I can basically up the flayed ones to 7 or cram in an Orb if I think I need it.

Comp works out to: 30 (starting point) + 10(Necrons codex) + 30(2 units from ea FO) = 70 points...very solid.

Army fully painted.....30pts

So, could start right off with a very solid 100pts.

Being able to say I have the Nads to take Necrons to a competitive event = priceless ;)

On My Work Table

This is what is currently on my work table. You don't see many Necron works in progress these days. But, I have a tournament coming up in a week thatf has some comp guide lines and I never shy from a challenge. My Necron tournament record is about 75% win to loss...so I am aiming for best comp and sportsman.

I also plan to work on some fluff as I paint each unit unique to that unit and hopefully tie into the armies general theme.
