Home made light box

Decided to spend some time working on getting better pictures of my mini's.

Did an internet search on home made light boxes and you can see what I came up with.  Also took a few dozen pics to see how to get the best results, still not satisfied...but coming along.

On the fitness side:
Ran a 5k in 36.30 mi..not blinding speed, more of a grandma pace..but pretty good for me at 265lb and bum leg...for comparison a solid time for a young gun would be 18-21 minutes...so got some ground to cover.

Ended up running 4.95 miles in my allotted hour on the tread mill

Always finish with a strength test after a good run and hit 235lb bench for 18...I figure if I can get 20, I should have run harder.

Thanks for the read,

Iron Hawks Land Speeder Storm

Here are a few WIP pics of my Iron Hawks Scout Land Speeder Storm.

I still need to finish up the two crew and gun this evening, hopefully.

This model will tote some scouts around in my 1850 Highlander List for the Nov. 22 local tournament I am planning to attend.

Still going to batch complete all the basing nearing the tournament for the sake of time.

I tried my hand at some free hand painting on this and the Inquisitorial Rhino and while not awesome, it is a first and I am pretty happy with it....because I can not draw worth a shite.

Thanks for the read,

Soul Drinkers Space Marines

So one of the things that run through my mind when I read any 40k novel is...."I should paint a squad of these guys"...well that and how do these guys (space marines) deal with no female companionship; maybe that is why they kill everything...

Anyway, the thought of painting a squad while reading a book has been itching around in my brain case for quite some time and even made it onto my project list...

Thus, I am about half way through the first Soul Drinkers Omnibus..I had some paint...I had an odd squad of marines...and....

...here we are. I took the pic on my phone. Because it was fast and easier..and after two years I figured out how to get pics off my phone and onto my pc...yeah for me.

Still some work to do, but glad paint2brush2model is occurring again in my environs.

Thanks for the read, BDS

Punisher Legion: Azrael Done, Libby touch up, Trooper Done + WIP

So, I have been following the tenet; "Get something done, no matter how small" lately with painting and making great progress....at least for me.

Here are two shot of my counts as DA Azrael  for my Punisher Legion Chapter Master.

A Punisher Marine. He will most likely be used as a Counts As Death Company allied Blood Angel.

WIP: Raven Wing Command Squad and some Dark Angel Lists

Here is what I am assembling today and priming tomorrow.

I have been contemplating a few lists with DA. The first I ran last week and it was a RavenWing Blood Angel Combo...or Blood Wing. You can find it HERE.

Next Up is another DA/BA combo. The Power Field Generator intrigues me....and if you like Drednaughts, which took a hit in 6th you like this:

HQ: Librarian (1#, 85 pts)
1 Librarian , 85 pts (Bolt Pistol; Force Sword; Space Marine Bike; Warlord)
HQ: Librarian (1#, 85 pts)
1 Librarian , 85 pts (Bolt Pistol; Force Sword; Space Marine Bike)
: Techmarine (1#, 125 pts)
1 Techmarine , 125 pts (Servo-Harness; Bolt Pistol; Boltgun; Power Field Generator; Space Marine
Bike)
: Techmarine (1#, 125 pts)
1 Techmarine , 125 pts (Servo-Harness; Bolt Pistol; Boltgun; Power Field Generator; Space Marine
Bike)

Elite: Dreadnought (1#, 120 pts)
1 Dreadnought , 120 pts (Searchlight; Smoke Launchers; Twin-Linked Autocannon; Twin-Linked
Autocannon)
Elite: Dreadnought (1#, 120 pts)
1 Dreadnought , 120 pts (Searchlight; Smoke Launchers; Twin-Linked Autocannon; Twin-Linked
Autocannon)
Elite: Dreadnought (1#, 120 pts)
1 Dreadnought , 120 pts (Searchlight; Smoke Launchers; Twin-Linked Autocannon; Twin-Linked
Autocannon)

Troops: Scout Squad (5#, 85 pts)
4 Scout Squad , 85 pts (Sniper Rifle x3; Missile Launcher; Flakk Missiles (for Missile Launcher))
1 Sergeant (Sniper Rifle)
Troops: Scout Squad (5#, 85 pts)
4 Scout Squad , 85 pts (Sniper Rifle x3; Missile Launcher; Flakk Missiles (for Missile Launcher))
1 Sergeant (Sniper Rifle)

HQ: Mephiston, Lord of Death (1#, 250 pts)
1 Mephiston, Lord of Death (HQ) [BA] , 250 pts

Troops: Death Company (6#, 180 pts)
1 Death Company (Troops) [BA] , 180 pts
1 Death Company [BA] (Boltgun; Power Sword)
1 Death Company [BA] (Boltgun; Power Sword)
1 Death Company [BA] (Boltgun; Power Sword)
1 Death Company [BA] (Boltgun)
1 Death Company [BA] (Boltgun)
1 Drop Pod [BA] (Drop Pod Assault)

Troops: Death Company Dreadnought (1#, 125 pts)
1 Death Company Dreadnought (Troops) [BA] , 125 pts (Blood Talons)
Heavy Support: Dreadnought (1#, 125 pts)
1 Dreadnought (Heavy) [BA] , 125 pts (Heavy Flamer; Twin-Linked Autocannon)
p1

: Ravenwing Command Squad (3#, 190 pts)
2 Ravenwing Command Squad , 190 pts
1 Ravenwing Champion
1 Standard of Devastation

Troops: Tactical Squad (10#, 140 pts)
9 Tactical Squad , 140 pts
1 Sergeant (Bolt Pistol; Boltgun)
Troops: Tactical Squad (10#, 140 pts)
9 Tactical Squad , 140 pts
1 Sergeant (Bolt Pistol; Boltgun)

So basically the Dreds go in front, with command squad hiding behind joined by Tech marines on each end of the command squad. The give the front line of dreds a 4+ invul. The Tac squad take the flanks. The scouts     infiltrate and hold objectives. Meph is your heavy hitter and takes cover and power field invul as they advance as a group. The two libby's take 1 roll for telepathy and one on Divination. Mephy will usually want Biomancy to cast endurance on a Tac Squad, etc. Death company drops in back field and becomes a nuisance and clears campers. The list is 2100 points as I may play in an upcoming tournament at that level.

Here is another allying with Space Marines:

HQ: Azrael (1#, 215 pts)
1 Azrael , 215 pts
HQ: Librarian (1#, 150 pts)
1 Librarian , 150 pts (Bolt Pistol; Force Sword; Power Field Generator; Increase Mastery Level x1;
Space Marine Bike)
HQ: Captain Darnath Lysander (1#, 200 pts)
1 Captain Darnath Lysander (HQ) [SM] , 200 pts
1 Fist of Dorn [SM]

: Ravenwing Command Squad (3#, 190 pts)
2 Ravenwing Command Squad , 190 pts
1 Ravenwing Champion
1 Standard of Devastation

Troops: Tactical Squad (10#, 140 pts)
9 Tactical Squad , 140 pts
1 Sergeant (Bolt Pistol; Boltgun)

Troops: Ravenwing Attack Squadron (7#, 236 pts)
1 Ravenwing Attack Squadron , 236 pts
5 Ravenwing Biker (Meltagun x2)
1 Ravenwing Sergeant
1 Ravenwing Attack Bike (Multi-melta)

Troops: Ravenwing Attack Squadron (6#, 209 pts)
1 Ravenwing Attack Squadron , 209 pts
4 Ravenwing Biker (Meltagun x2)
1 Ravenwing Sergeant
1 Ravenwing Attack Bike (Multi-melta)

Troops: Ravenwing Attack Squadron (7#, 216 pts)
1 Ravenwing Attack Squadron , 216 pts
5 Ravenwing Biker (Flamer x2)
1 Ravenwing Sergeant
1 Ravenwing Attack Bike

Fast Attack: Ravenwing Support Squadron (7#, 393 pts)
3 Ravenwing Black Knights , 168 pts (Ravenwing Grenade Launcher x1)
1 Ravenwing Huntmaster

3 Ravenwing Support Squadron , 225 pts (Typhoon Missile Launcher x3)
Troops: Scout Squad (5#, 90 pts)

4 Scout Squad (Troops) [SM] , 90 pts (Sniper Rifle x3; Heavy Bolter w/Hellfire Shells)
1 Sergeant [SM] (Melta Bombs; Bolt Pistol; Sniper Rifle)

Fast Attack: Land Speeder Storm (1#, 60 pts)
1 Land Speeder Storm (Fast) [SM] , 60 pts (Heavy Flamer)

Darnath joins Tac Squad with Azrael. This grants reroll on bolters and 4+ invul and provides a tough nut in the center. The power field generating libby stays close to the Raven Wing Typhoon squadrons granting a 4+ invul and prescience along with any other goodies he may roll. Black nights hunt stragglers and lend weight of fire. List is also 2100 points and sports up to 12 troop units if needed. It is true the DA Tac squad can not full salvo on the move...but they can overwatch salvo...but often the bikes will be able to scoot around behind them etc. Azrael grants your choice of Warlord traits and Darnath also bolsters a ruin as needed. The scouts outflank, are a Swiss army knife, and will most likely outflank.

Enjoy and throw me a line if find any element useful or run either list and have feedback.

Thanks for the read,

BDS

RIW Tournament 2.23.13: "Dan, I think you need a Snickers!"

It has been quiet on the 40k front between work and lifting. I did get out for a small 1250 point tournament hosted by RIW Hobbies in Livonia, MI this last Saturday.

A long time gamer and all around good guy Ed Long put it all together and the tournament was hosted in a beautiful new game room with great tables, scenery, Flat screen TVs, comfortable temperature and seating; with plenty of room for all your stuff.

New Project: Low Model Count Space Wolves

After quite a bit of initial consternation, I decided the next project would pull from codex Space Wolves. The paint scheme and iconography will be loosely based on the Legion of the Damned. I am not completely sure how the army list composition will eventually turn out, however my desire is to keep the model count low.  Here is a WIP of the first entry a Lone Wolf in terminator armor, storm shield, chain fist and two Fen Wolves. My goal is to get some paint on these fellas this week for a start.

I broke down recently and purchased army builder and have been toying with many builds. Right now I plan to start with the following:

Bjorn
2 units of Grey Hunters (though converted enough to become Wolf Guard just in case) in pods/rhinos
Venerable Dred in pod
2 Tpyhoon Pattern Speeders

I am going to try to keep units like Long Fangs to a minimum or not at all. I want the force to be fluid and able to loose no firepower on the move to fit with the LoTD theme. The Grey Hunters/Wolf Guard will most likely all get either storm bolters or combi weapons, etc. Hence also the Dreds and Speeders.

The picture to the right is where I am going with the paint scheme. This wonderful work was done by : JerzyK and posted on Cool Mini or Not. Where I find all the reference material you could ever need.

Time to Plan a New Army Project

My goal for 2012 was to knock out 4 completed armies.

I have been chugging along with the Orks, my current army list has about 120 models.

With this in mind I need to keep painting and also start on my next army to stay on pace.

2100 Orks Project:: WIP Ork Killa Kans; Prototype Finished

Another crazy work week combined with the holidays!

Last week I did not get much 40k stuff done...though I did become a certified CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation)  Instructor; which allows me to train others in CPR and issue them a certification. Also able to teach general first aid. Very cool.
I did however, finish my first Kan prototype with the magnetized chassis.

Let me know what you guys think. I think I may need to add something to the front.

I also did manage to build 2 more Warbike squads with two boyz and a nob each...you can see those in the back ground.

This has me nearing my proposed lists' model completion, save 5 more kans and either 3 more Kans or 3 big guns.

Here are some more pics:

2100 Orks Project: Killa Kann WIP

A few pics on what I have been working on lately.

The first one is coming along slowly, however once I get it down the remaining 5 or so should go much easier.

So far just raiding my bitz box, nothing built from scratch. I have the Dozer chasis about finished and will start on the Klaw and the Grotzooka next.

Orks it is! The Ork Project Begins!

Well, the results are clear and honestly I am quite pleased. I actually would have been just fine with any of the choices; though I admit to a soft spot for the ole' Orks.

This also works out well as I have done nothing with my Orks for several years combined with the fact they were my first army.

The icing is that the Orks have gone full circle...prior to the current codex they were considered not very good, when the current codex came out...they were everywhere, considered top tier, and all over the competitive scene; now...they are on the decline.

This is the internet view as I perceive it reading list reviews and tournament reports not my opinions about Orks in general.

In general I am tickled Orks have kinda self adjusted back to where most only the people who play Orks are they ones who really like Orks...not just looking for an awesome tournament net list.

I am pretty geeked and have a few things running through my mind.

First up what I am going to begin with: A group of Gretchen and herder.

I choose this unit for the first one as working on the skin will get my mojo going without ruining any real orks and the simple models should help get a feeling of accomplishment as I get a 20 or so done quickly.

Lastly, the gretchen unit is a viable objective grabbing choice in many lists.

I have some ideas on where I am headed list wise and want to post them up soon.

Thanks for all the votes and of course the read,

A Veritable Sea of Unbuilt and Unpainted Models is My Ork Collection!

The voting poll is coming to a close in only a few hours and the Orks are taking a controlling lead!

Seeing this develop over the last couple days saw me drag out all my stored Ork stuff, snap a few pics, and draw up a loose inventory.

Loose because I started to get fatigued/bored trying to catalog all the odd stuff I have accumulated over the years.

I knew I had a bunch of stuff, but when I actually added it up I was pretty shocked................

Little Help from Readers with Picking a Project

I am asking for help from readers on deciding my current 40k project! Read on.

I have mentioned this in past posts, but my 40k life and real life are in direct opposition.

In my career as a nurse and manager of a facility that helps individuals with Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI's) I am very decisive, even director like.

In  40k I bounce all over the map; completing a project here, half a project there, a 1000 great ideas and little completion of any one in particular.

This is both fun....and irritating. Fun, because I can do what I want, when I want. Irritating as I never seem to get a project done...at least to the point of being able to run a decent army for a significant period of time.

So with the ground set, help a gamer out and provide some feedback....
